Betting Sites Offer Compulsive Gamblers Help?

I closely monitor what is being said online about compulsive gambling — treatment to stop gambling, advice for gamblers that want to quit, gamblers anonymous news, forums where gamblers look for support to cure their gambling problem, etc. Funny enough, many articles that seemingly offer advice to people who want to quit gambling, are found on gambling and casino websites! Is this because they care about problem gamblers?
Unfortunately, the appearance of gambling addiction treatment advice and tips on how to stop gambling articles on gambling websites is nothing more than a very cynical use of readily available free content. Don’t be fooled. It’s not that the gambling sites are interested in helping problem gamblers that end up there. It’s precisely the opposite – they are looking to attract people at their most vulnerable moment.  Here is how it works:

1. Internet gambling website owners understand how the Internet works. They also understand how the Internet is an irresistible temptation for problem gamblers. And once they get a problem gambler on their site, they know there is a good chance he will stay and play (and lose).

2. Many gambling addicts are seeking help online. It is probably the first place the average gambler seeks information and help for his problem. They conduct searches for “gamblers anonymous”, “treatment for problem gambling”, “help for a gambling problem”, etc. And the websites that house the casinos, poker games, blackjack, bingo and numerous other forms of betting online, want to be there to welcome those problem gamblers with open arms. So they supply the very content that a gambler is trying to find in order to recover from their addiction.

3. These sites don’t even need to write their own advice and tips for problem gamblers. They simply scrape articles from existing databases and add them to their own websites. It is sophisticated and highly unethical. but it is not illegal and countless gamblers, seeking advice about how to begin recovery, are surprised to find themselves on yet another gambling site, tempting them with offers of big winnings.
